Over 40 Years of Experience
The City of Cumming is no newcomer to the wastewater treatment field. For over 40 years the City has addressed Cumming’s need for wastewater treatment and environmental integrity. The City built the area’s first wastewater treatment facility, a five-acre oxidation pond, in 1963. Today, with a state-of the art 3 Million-Gallon-Per-Day (3 MGD) Advanced Water Reclamation Facility, the City continues to be the leader in the region. The ability to offer this level of service empowers the City to welcome quality growth and development to the area.
1989 – City Moves Facility
Rapid growth occurred throughout the North Georgia region during the 1980s and with it came the need for additional wastewater treatment capacity for the citizens of Cumming. The City’s 1963 Oxidation Pond had already been expanded to its limits and was equipped with antiquated wastewater treatment technology. The decision was made by the Mayor and Council in 1989 to relocate the facility to its current 22-acre tract just south of the City limits.
The Future
What does the future hold for the Cumming area? No one knows for sure, but many believe our status as the fastest growing area in the nation will continue for years to come. Who better to take responsibility for keeping our water clean than the people with the expertise and the ability to stand-up and take-charge!! – THE CITY OF CUMMING, GEORGIA.
2006 And Beyond
The City of Cumming has secured an National Pollutant Discharge Elimination Syste(NPDES) Permit to discharge up to 8 Million Gallons per Day (MGD) of highly treated wastewater back into Big Creek, a tributary to the Chattahoochee River System. Plans are underway to expand the existing facility to 8 MGD. The City expects completion of the project by late 2008.
