As of August 2026, the project is approximately 60% complete. The project will enable the city to provide adequate fire protection and hydrants to the Greenwood Acres neighborhood. Originally, some of the water lines in Greenwood Acres were installed in the 1960s. The City is proud to be able to improve this neighborhood’s water system, pipes, pressure, and fire flow. This project will reduce the number of future repairs because the new lines are made of Ductile Iron Pipe. We apologize for the inconvenience related to the construction process and will do our best to keep both traffic and water flowing properly.

The City’s Greenwood Acres Water Line Project began on July 28, 2025 and will near completion in late 2026. This project includes an upgraded water line from 6-inch to 8-inch Ductile Iron Pipe with Fire Hydrants. We thank you for your patience as we make this much needed improvement to your community. The Greenwood Acres Project is now underway. G.S. Construction is currently coordinating staking activities and locating underground utilities.

Work will progress gradually from the western side of the development (near Kelly Mill) toward the eastern side (near Canton Highway).

As part of this project, residents may experience brief water service interruptions when their service line is transferred from the existing water main to the new main. The contractor will provide advance notice—typically about three days prior—before any planned service changeover.

Dear Greenwood Acres Community Homeowners:

The City of Cumming has been planning to replace the water lines and fire hydrants within the Greenwood Acres Subdivision for the past couple of years, due to the infrastructure’s age. We have received funding through a Georgia State Revolving Fund (SRF) Loan to replace these lines in the amount of $5,274,300.00. We are pleased to be able to make this major investment in your community and water system.

Please be advised that our contractor, G.S. Construction, will begin this project on July 28, 2025 with an expected completion date of August 28, 2026. Construction will at times be challenging as we navigate around other existing utilities that currently lie within the narrow right-of-way of each street. You may experience some damage to you landscaping which will be repaired by the City as we move along the project. We currently plan to bore under all driveways to prevent damage to the concrete or asphalt. Some trees near the road and inside of the right-of-way will need to be removed to make way for the new pipeline, water meters, valves, and fire hydrants.
